There are few pop superstars that are bigger than Elton John, and despite the fact that
he’s been at it for decades now, he remains as popular as he’s ever been with the young and old alike. Currently, Elton is in the midst of an extensive world tour, which is taking him across Europe before he returns to the United States in the fall. Then he’ll be taking up a residency at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas for the month of October, before continuing on to concert dates in Australia. Particularly indicative of his popularity with young music fans, Elton John is to perform as one of the headliners at San Francisco’s Outside Lands Music Festival in August.

Elton John was born in England in 1947. He began playing the piano, which is his signature instrument, when he was only four years old, and music has been a lifelong passion of his. In fact, he decided at the age of 17 to drop out of high school and to instead pursue his career in music. While playing in a band called Bluesology, Elton began working as a songwriter for other artists. Building upon his experience, he eventually recorded and released his debut album, which was called “Empty Sky,” in 1969.

Success didn’t come instantaneously, though, and Elton’s first album failed to sell well. However, his follow-up, eponymous album finally brought him the success that he’d hoped for, featuring the first hit single of his career “Your Song.” Since then there’s been no looking back for Elton, as he’s only continued to release hit after hit. In fact, many of his albums have become modern classics, most notably the magnum opus “Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road,” which contains many of Elton’s most beloved songs.

His success as a musician hasn’t been confined to one decade or one era, and Elton has, in fact, released chart-topping songs over the course of his entire career. Many, for example, will remember the hit song that he penned for Disney’s “The Lion King,” as well as his reworking of the classic song “Candle in the Wind” for the late Princess Diana.

There can be no doubt, that Elton John is one of the greatest artists ever to grace the stage. To this day, music listeners continue to discover his catalogue, falling in love with classics like “Crocodile Rock” and “Rocket Man” just as generations of music listeners have before them.
