Not all Major League Baseball teams have had huge success in the professional league. In fact, all teams have experienced ups and downs and the Houston Astros is one exception. The franchise was established in 1962 and since then, the team has had difficulties in establishing their identity in league. The Astros started their professional baseball history as the Colt .45s and they were the maiden expansion team of the National League. Their debut game was a win against the Chicago Cubs. The name .45s was used from 1962 to 1964 and the name Astros was used from 1965 until now. The team first played in the National League, but for the 2013 regular season, the team moved to the American League. Lack of superstar players is said to have contributed to the misfortune of the team. 43 years after playing in the professional league, the team reached the World Series as the National League pennant winner, but unfortunately, the Chicago White Sox were too strong for them as the White Sox swept the Astros.

In the central division of the NL, they found success during the late 1990s to early 2000s as they captured the central division title. The 2005 World Series appearance was unprecedented as they attained a playoff appearance thanks to their Wild Card berth.

The Astros initially played baseball at the Colt Stadium for three years, from 1962 to 1964. They moved to the Astrodome from 1965 to 1999. They are now currently playing their home games in Minute Maid Park. This ballpark was opened to the public in 2000 and features cutting-edge and high-end technology with classic architecture. This ballpark cost about $248 million to build and features a unique, retractable roof. It also has 50,000 square feet of glass located in the western wall, giving fans a great view of Houston skyline. The playing field is covered by natural Bermuda grass.

Getting to this ballpark is easy since it is a landmark in downtown Houston.
