A long time fan favorite, his work becomes more and more personal with every album. Perhaps this is why, according to Great American Country, he is the biggest ticket seller of the 21st Century.
A true southerner, he was born in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1968 and was playing guitar and recording himself performing by the time he was in his early 20s. Within years of graduating college he was already offered a recording contract and by 1994 he had released a debut album. He would produce an album every year after that through 2000, and then get back on track making albums from 2002 through 2013.
Throughout all of this time he was also touring and working with some of the other greats of country music too. From Lee Ann Womack and Rascal Flatts to the Zac Brown Band and Lady Antebellum, he partners up with other excellent bands and musicians.
He doesn't often cite his influences but will instead work with those who seem to be a good match to his evolving style. Of course, his fifteenth album, "Life on a Rock" was one that seemed to be the farthest out in terms of the boundaries pushed with lyrics.
Chesney had not made any plans to record until 2014 but was inspired by his memories of an earlier and simpler time in his life to write many songs on the album. He is noted as saying that the work he did on that album made it clear that it is attention to the moments and to the small things that are becoming the most important to him.
Never in the tabloids, Chesney did find himself stuck there when he had a whirlwind romance with actress Renee Zellwegger. The two married and divorced within four months, and Chesney said that he had not understood what it meant to be married until that time. Perhaps that too has influenced his soulful lyrics.
