Mixed Martial Arts Tickets
Seen by many who don't understand it as a bit brutal, MMA, or Mixed Martial Arts, is also a true sport that requires intensive training and a lot of skill in order to succeed. It is a full contact sport that is built around the fundamentals of hand to hand combat. It is one of the few modern sports that touch directly on roots in the ancient Greek world of the first Olympics events.
Though it has evolved in several ways and in different formats from country to country, it appeared in the United States around 1993 when the UFC or Ultimate Fighting Championship was created. Because the rules that governed the events were a bit too liberal for safety, things were changed and this is what we see in the modern MMA.
You can see people using everything from wrestling and karate to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and kickboxing during MMA events. It was in 1997 that some of the first official professional rules were applied, and today the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts are used as the guidelines.
Today, MMA events are seen in many different locations with groups such as the United States Army using the techniques. However, as a professional sport, it is most commonly known as the UFC and involves both men and women's divisions.
The competitions are often held in large stadiums and arenas and are popular with the pay-per-view audiences who cannot attend them in person. There are a lot of competitions each year and the amateur bouts are regulated by the rules of the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles as well as the International Olympic Committee.
Is it as brutal as so many believe? The injury rate (according to Journal of Sports Science and Medicine ) was no worse than other combative sports (such as boxing) and because there were fewer "knockouts" (usually because of a blow to the head) it was found that MMA was less harmful to the brains of the combatants.
So, whether you think of it as brutal or merely an ancient sport, you will want to catch at least one MMA event if possible.
