The Heat have won three NBA Championships including two straight from 2012-13. The franchise was founded in 1988 and didn't win their first title until Dwayne Wade led them to a championship in 2006.The team has also won 11 division titles including four straight from 1997-2000 and 5 conference titles.

In the history of the Heat, the team has raised two numbers to the rafters because of contributions to the franchise. Those players are Tim Hardaway and Alonzo Mourning, while the No. 23 was retired by the team in honor of basketball legend, Michael Jordan. Other players that have made contributions to the Heat include LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Wade, Rony Siekaly, Shaquille O'Neal and Glen Rice.

Lebron James, played for the Heat from 2010 - 2014 and returned to his hometown of Akron, OH to play again with the Cleveland Cavs beginning in the Fall of 2014.  The current King of the NBA has led the Heat to the NBA Finals in each of his four seasons. He has averaged at least 26 points per game in each season with the team and led the NBA in field goal and three point shooting during the 2012-13 season. In the following season (2013-14), James finished with averages of 27.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game on 56.7 percent shooting.  

Home games for the Miami Heat are played at the American Airlines Arena which opened for use by the team in 1999. The cost of construction of the facility was more than $213 million, which would equate to close to $300 in 2013. When the Heat are playing at the arena, it can seat more than 19,000 fans and the arena has also been home to numerous concerts and other sporting events.
